'Words from Father Hugh a recent visitor''
Father's House People

Father Hugh wrote 'We are meeting for coffee with friends of Michael’s who attend ‘the Father’s House’ in Skipton, (a coffee shop by day), where every Thursday evening they gather together in the presence of Jesus. It’s all about love, they say, especially about allowing oneself to be touched by love. I notice the absence of ego and competition in them. These are friends; they sing a hymn to friendship by the way they greet, meet and share. ‘It is the Lord’, they acknowledge, in the words of the beloved John who recognises Jesus on the beach preparing breakfast for weary fishermen who have caught nothing. They remind me of what it is all about; what remains, in other words, when you take the religious scaffolding away. They pray in a coffee shop, break the bread of real communion and practice the art of forgiveness. As a consequence they discover a deep freedom and move out spontaneously to people in need. They become fathers again – maybe real fathers for the first time – nurturing, affirming and confirming the good in everyone. Christianity has become for them a way of fathering, breathing the Spirit over each one, receiving the Spirit from each other. They use ordinary means - a text, a hug, a deep listening in, a word that builds up, a hand that forgives, a look that says ‘you are in the Father’s heart and all is well’.

Go there sometime soon. The Father’s House is everywhere!'
